Press Release NEW ORLEANS-Heriard-Cimino Gallery is pleased to present Area de Resonancia, introducing the works of Buenos Aires artist Jorge Sarsale. An opening reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is invited. The exhibition will be on view from August 2 - September 2, 2008. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 to 5, or by appointment. Jorge Sarsale’s non-pictorial constructions are made from the delicate cutting and pasting of lightweight paper strips applied to canvas. The cut-out paintings give the impression of a structured cosmos, originating from a big bang, which he reorders and fixes in his own vision. The aesthetic experience is painterly and architectural at the same time, expressed through small breaks of size, changes of direction, and chromatic variations of his colored paper in shifting proportions. Other pieces in his Area de Resonancia series include a large minimal totemic painting also using paper and canvas, as well as an installation and his cut-paper wall pieces. Sarsale’s work is “no-paint paintings,” created without the traditional use of pigment and liquid. He invents his own unique process, creating movement and silence throughout the cut-outs. In viewing his work, there is a rhythmic parallel between his paintings and the poetry of Japanese haikus. Jorge Sarsale received a degree in archtecture from Universidad de Buenos Aires in 1978, and has pursued his artistic career through study with leading Argentenian artists. Sarsale has shown internationally in Buenos Aires, Madrid, Paris, Miami, and now New Orleans. This is Jorge Sarsale’s first exhibition at Heriard-Cimino Gallery.
