NEW ORLEANS---Heriard-Cimino Gallery presents Wall Sculptures by Carolina Sardi. An Opening Reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, October 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition will be on view October 2 through October 30, 2010. This exhibition is in conjunction with Art for Arts’ Sake, an annual celebration held throughout the Arts District. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 to 5, or by appointment.

Carolina Sardi’s new series of wall sculptures, Between You, Me and Us include landscapes, celestial bodies and the human figure presented as abstracted, minimal forms that appear to hover in space. The artist fabricates and paints each steel element, choreographing them to create these very unique sculptures. The placement of one single piece next to another produces a unique dialog and psycological dynamic. Her exploration between these elements is fundamentally expressing Sardi’s interest in the basic interactions of life.

The artist discusses, “The steel pieces that create these compositions are placed upon the walls but separated from the surface, creating a floating effect in the space that is enhanced by lights and shadows. The blank walls become the medium and support for each one of these installations. The color, or absence of it, is used to emphasize the strength of each shape and its placement in the space. The idea of color or absence of it is as important as the sculpture itself.”

Sardi moved from her home in Argentina, establishing herself in Miami in 1995. Her work has been exhibited throughout the world. Group Shows include the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C., Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Organization of the American States Museum in Washington D.C., and in private and public collection in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Sardi received her M.F.A. in Sculpture at Facultad de Bellas Artes, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina and her B.F.A. at Bachillerato de Bellas Artes, U.N.L.P., Argentina.
