Pinkney Herbert Resume

Press Release

NEW ORLEANS - Heriard-Cimino Gallery presents “Broken Time” by Pinkney Herbert. The exhibition will be on view from August 7 to September 20, 2010. An opening reception to meet the artist will be held Saturday, August 7th from 6 to 9 p.m., in conjunction with White Linen Night, a celebration of the arts in the New Orleans Arts District. The public is invited. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 5, or by appointment.

About the Exhibition:
There is an alchemy of line, gesture, and form that manifests in Herbert’s Paintings and Drawings. His pieces are improvisational, possessing Herbert’s acumen for bold structure and color. The paintings and drawings are syncopated and fluid.

The artist divides his time between Memphis and New York and this series reflects the influences of both. The artist references his double life in titling this exhibition Broken Time, a jazz term used when musicians do not establish a set beat, allowing for improvisation to happen. Herbert also has a particularly deep connection with the music of New Orleans. The title of his exhibition echos the enormous musical influences of the region projected throughout Herbert’s Broken Time series. As an aside, the artist keeps a harmonica in his pocket.
